But yes, the forum is full of good advice and I enjoyed it too...despite the shiver-inducing userpics! (I think it's a primal reaction we're having and I totally understand why users of a long-hair forum would post such pictures, but to see them in aggregate is weird!)Autumn Whitefield-Madranohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03379314479257695986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5860052019354199263.post-51546969739079900052011-05-14T16:44:20.831-07:002011-05-14T16:44:20.831-07:00I had to laugh when you mentioned the "creepy...I had to laugh when you mentioned the "creepy" pictures of women photographed from behind. I thought the same thing when I first saw them. Lots of great info on that site, I enjoy reading on the forum.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5860052019354199263.post-23310028731845046892010-10-24T20:17:47.985-07:002010-10-24T20:17:47.985-07:00Raz, I love that! And you do have awesome skin--I've always thought so.

You know, it wasn't that long ago that people would make crude remarks about the personal hygiene of continental Europeans. (And sometimes it's true, to be sure.) I wonder if there's a sort of self-hating backlash now that our love affair with the continent can come out in full force, what with there not being a war on and all? Farfetched but...Autumn Whitefield-Madranohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03379314479257695986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5860052019354199263.post-21988210264335158542010-10-23T11:06:56.863-07:002010-10-23T11:06:56.863-07:00Now that I think about it, it occurs to me that my...Now that I think about it, it occurs to me that my mother never washed her face either, which is probably why I never got into the habit. Maybe it's a European thing - she's German. I mean, I...True story: I have never washed my face. I mean, I guess it gets clean when I take a shower, but I've never had a face-washing regimen. And, well, I'm kind of afraid of your snarky anonymous commenters, but fuck it: I have awesome skin! Now that I'm in my 30s, people have started asking me what I use on my skin, and I'm like "um, nothing? I guess my secret is chocolate and 10 years of being a workaholic and drinking too much?"

Every once in a while, I'll feel shamed by the beauty-industrial complex into spending $30 on various face-cleaning products but I seriously never use any of them more than once. And I can't help but think that this has made my skin "better."

I also never use shampoo on my hair, and haven't in years, because I realized long before the whole no-poo thing that shampoo just made my hair super-frizzy and dry. But I do use conditioner so it's not like I'm a purist.Razhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07392174626612431500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5860052019354199263.post-48035279975331310352010-10-21T14:35:29.132-07:002010-10-21T14:35:29.132-07:00Thanks for reading, all!
When I cut off 12 inches...Thanks for reading, all!

When I cut off 12 inches of hair several years ago, I saved the ponytail as a sort of memento--I stuck it in a plastic bag and, fancying myself to be creatively ambitious, believed that someday I'd use it in an as-yet-unconceived art project. Years later, I came across the plastic bag and was audibly startled because the sight of a bunch of hair, totally disconnected from its context, seemed, well, creepy! And it was my own damn hair! Why do you think that movies frequently have serial killers saving locks of their victims' hair as "trophies"? Because hair can be a little creepy!

Any site dedicated to one hobby or aspect of one's lifestyle can get a little obsessive. So, yeah, row upon row of pictures of the back of women's heads--I'm sure they're lovely and terrifically un-creepy women (everyone seemed very supportive of each other) but in the aggregate it's a little odd.Autumn Whitefield-Madranohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03379314479257695986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5860052019354199263.post-17811313456402973922010-10-21T11:46:58.097-07:002010-10-21T11:46:58.097-07:00Wow, I think the first post was a little unecessar...Wow, I think the first post was a little unecessary! Child molesting?? Why even bring that up?...And to Mary: take a minute to reread her post...she isn't 'bashing' she is simply being honest about what she thinks...and it's not even that insulting. If people are insulted they need to learn how to take themselves a little less seriously. Geez. She just said the user pics were vaguely creepy because they're just the backs of people's heads...I tend to agree. It's almost comical if you think about it. I never really noticed how the pics ARE kind of creepy lol. Ease up folks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5860052019354199263.post-77795683449876537862010-10-21T10:37:53.047-07:002010-10-21T10:37:53.047-07:00I agree with the above poster, why is it creepy ex...I agree with the above poster, why is it creepy exactly? Lots of people document hairgrowth...if you find it odd then why even visit a community like that? and why then take the time to bash them for it...arn't you worried that you may hurt someones feelings at all by calling them names?Marynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5860052019354199263.post-35887009903088858952010-10-21T10:24:09.818-07:002010-10-21T10:24:09.818-07:00Wow,you really just want publicity, don't you?I...Wow,you really just want publicity, don't you?I don't know the hair community but I don't think it's creepy posting pictures of your hair on a site.It would have been creepy if you would've posted pictures of someone molesting a child.Seriously.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
